Driving Directions from Points West

The Ted Williams Tunnel, which is on I-90, will not be closed during the Callahan Tunnel Rehabilitation Project. The routes described on this page are the usual best routes to Logan from Points West.

However, be prepared for delays because some traffic that would normally use the Callahan Tunnel will be diverted onto I-90 and through the Ted Williams Tunnel.

From Route 2 Eastbound and Route 3 Southbound outside of I-95

1) Take Route 2 Eastbound or Route 3 Southbound until you reach the exit for I-95 Southbound. 2) Stay on I-95 southbound until you get to Exit 25 (I-90 eastbound - Mass Pike Eastbound [Toll Road]) 3) Take Exit 25 and follow I-90 Eastbound for 13.7 miles to Logan Airport.

From I-90/Masspike Eastbound, west of Exit 18/Storrow Drive*
Follow I-90 Eastbound to Logan Airport.



Driving Directions from Points North via I-93 Southbound

Option 1 - Recommended

1) Take Route 93 Southbound to Exit 31 (Rte 16 E)
2) From exit, turn left onto Route 16 Eastbound
3) Continue on Route 16 Eastbound for 5.6 miles until the Bell Circle Rotary.
4) At the Bell Circle Rotary, turn onto Route 1A Southbound.
5) Continue 2.7 miles to Logan Airport and follow signs to access airport
6) For East Boston, exit at Curtis Street.

Option 2

1) Take Route 93 Southbound to Exit 18 (Frontage Road)
2) Take Exit 18 for Frontage Road
3) Stay straight at the Massachusetts Avenue ramp and then turn left at the sign for I-90/Bypass Road
4) Go through the next intersection and follow Bypass Road 1.3 miles to the I-90 Eastbound on-ramp
5) Enter I-90 Eastbound and follow 1.8 miles to Logan Airport



Driving Directions from the North Shore

Option 1 - Recommended

1) Take I-95/Route 128 Southbound to Exit 37A for I-93 South
2) Take 1-93 Southbound to Exit 31 for Route 16 Eastbound
3) From the exit, turn left onto Route 16 Eastbound
4) Follow for 5.6 miles until the Bell Circle Rotary
5) At the Bell Circle Rotary, turn onto Route 1A Southbound
6) Continue 2.7 miles to Logan Airport and follow signs to access airport
7) For East Boston, exit at Curtis Street

Option 2

1) Take I-95/Route 128 Southbound until you reach Exit 25 for I-90 East/Masspike
2) Take Exit 25 for I-90 Eastbound
3) Follow I-90 Eastbound for approximately 13 miles to Logan Airport



Driving Directions from West Suburban Boston

From Storrow Drive Eastbound, East of I-90

Option 1 - Recommended

1) Stay on Storrow Drive to end.
2) Follow signs to I-93 Southbound.
3) Take I-93 Southbound for 3.0 miles to Exit 18 (Frontage Road)
4) Go through first intersection and then turn left at the sign for I-90/Bypass Road.
5) Go through the next intersection and follow Bypass Road 1.3 miles to the I-90 Eastbound on-ramp
6) Enter I-90 E and follow 1.8 miles to Logan Airport.

Option 2

1) Stay on Storrow Drive to end.
2) Follow signs for Route 1 Northbound
3) Follow Route 1 Northbound for 4.6 miles to Route 16 Eastbound
4) Enter Route 16 Eastbound and follow for 1.3 miles until the Bell Circle Rotary.
5) At the Bell Circle Rotary, turn onto Route 1A Southbound.
6) Continue 2.7 miles to Logan Airport and follow signs to access airport

Driving Directions from Downtown Boston, Financial District and Downtown Waterfront

From Downtown Boston North of South Station via New Chardon Street, Purchase Street or Essex Street

1) Access I-93 Southbound via New Chardon Street, Purchase Street or Essex Street
2) Follow I-93 S to Exit 18 3) Stay straight at Massachusetts Ave ramp and turn left at the sign for I-90/Bypass Road.
3) Go through the next intersection and follow Bypass Rd. 1.3 miles to I-90 Eastbound on-ramp
4) Enter I-90 Eastbound and continue1.8 miles to Logan Airport



Driving Directions from Boston’s Chinatown and Theater District

The Ted Williams Tunnel, which is on I-90, will not be closed during the Callahan Tunnel Rehabilitation Project. However, be prepared for delays because some traffic that would normally use the Callahan Tunnel will be diverted onto I-90 and through the Ted Williams Tunnel.

From Downtown Boston North of South Station via New Chardon Street, Purchase Street or Essex Street

1) Once on Kneeland Street, take the ramp to I-93 Southbound/I-90 Westbound/Albany Street
2) Stay in the far left lane
3) Take your first left (the South Station Connector), following the signs for “Express to Airport/I-93 South”
4) Take the first right to “Express to Airport/I-93 South”
5) Follow the ramp for 0.2 miles and bear left for “Express to Airport” via the Ted Williams Tunnel



Driving Directions from Boston’s South End

The HOV tunnel will be open to all vehicles during the closure of the Callahan Tunnel. You may use the detour routes below to access Logan Airport and East Boston during construction.

From the west side of I-93 and south of Traveler Street

1) Take surface streets east to Albany Street
2) Travel south on Albany Street and follow Airport signs to Northbound Frontage Road. Turn left under the highway
3) Take an immediate left onto Northbound Frontage Road
4) Continue on Frontage Road, following the signs for I-90 Eastbound to Logan Airport

From the west side of I-93 and north of East Berkeley Street

1) Take surface streets easterly to Albany Street
2) Travel South on Albany Street to Traveler Street
3) Turn left (under highway) and bear left onto access, following the signs for Express to Logan Airport.

If you miss Traveler Street, continue 0.3 miles on Albany Street. Follow the airport signs, turning left under the highway onto Northbound Frontage Road. Follow the signs for I-90 E to Logan Airport.

From the east side of I-93 and south of Albany Street

1) Take surface streets west to Northbound Frontage Road.
2) Pass Albany St. and follow signs for I-90 E to Logan Airport.
